| Dr. Victor Fodeke Dr. Victor Fodeke is a senior environmental consultant with SNESystems Nigeria, limited. He is the liaison and lead officer representing SNESystems on Federal Government of Nigeria environmental related projects. Prior to joining SNESystems, Dr. Fodeke was the Head of Special Climate Change Unit, Federal Ministry of Environment, Nigeria, as well as the Designated National Authority (DNA), and Focal Point Person for Reduced Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation(REDD). As Nigeria's Lead Negotiator, Designated National Authority (DNA) and Focal Point for the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), he led Nigeria to the Conference of Parties (COP), Meeting of Parties (MOP) 14 in Poznan, and COP/MOP 15 in Copenhagen. He was a member of the Committee of Conference of African Heads of State and Government on Climate Change (CAHOSCC). In 2010, he co-chairs the African Group of Negotiators in the UNFCCC negotiation process. He was also a member of "Expert Group on Feasibility Study And Impact Assessment of Possible Market-Based Measures (MBM-EG)" of the International Maritime organization (IMO), representing Nigeria. Dr. Fodeke, represented Africa as a member and National Focal Point for the World Bank "Clean Technology Fund (CTF)" in 2010. He was a member of Enforcement Branch of the Compliance Committee (Enforcement Branch) of United Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). As the Nation's Designated National Authority (DNA) for Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) projects led the country in the registration of FOUR CDM projects in 2 years. With his leadership Nigeria now has 5 CDM projects registered. The expected volume of carbon credits to be generated per year is over 1% of worldwide expected carbon credits to be generated, making Nigeria the 10th country in the world of CDM in terms of yearly credits to be generated. Dr. Victor has a certificate in environmental assessment and management of Air & Water Pollution from Industries from the University of Ghent, Belgium. He earned B.Sc and M.Sc from the University of Lagos and a Ph.D. from the University of Benin, Edo State, Nigeria in 1986. He got several honors and awards including: Commonwealth Langkawi award in international environmental management, universityof Dalhousie, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada; North-south Fulbright Exchange (Hubert H. Humphery) Fellowship, the United States of America Information service fellow, University of Washington, Seattle, WA, USA; Ashoka Fellowship for Social Entrepreneurship in the area of environment and sustainable community development. Dr. Fodeke has professional proficiency in English, native or bilingual proficiency in Yoruba and Hausa, and with limited working proficiency in French. |
